Congress today made it clear that the party is not doing any political activity of supporting Peoples Democratic Party after speculation of purported ‘differences’ with BJP, over government formation after the demise of former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. “PDP and BJP are already in alliance. How can Congress say that the party is ready to support PDP when there is no controversy between PDP and BJP over new government formation,” JK Pradesh Congress Committee president G A Mir told KNS. Mir said that the support for new government formation has to be decided by PDP. “PDP has to take a decision on it (our support). Why should we think over it? If any differences crop up between PDP and BJP over government formation, then our doors are not far. And then our high command will take decision of supporting PDP,” the JKPCC chief said. Mir said that as of today there is no such communication between the state unit of Congress and the high command in New Delhi over supporting PDP. Following the death of former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the government ceased to exist as per law, since the next chief minister, tipped to be Mehbooba Mufti, did not take oath within 24 hours of the CM’s demise. The delay in oath taking gave air to speculations that all is not well between PDP and BJP, and subsequently media was rife that Congress along with independent legislators was approaching the PDP for government formation. “Media can report anything, but as a party, Congress cannot say that it approached PDD,” Mir said. “We were associated with Mufti Sahab because he was a Congress politician first and also the one of the senior most politicians and chief minister of the state. So, it was our obligation to mourn his death and visit his bereaved family,” he said.
