In an indication of division within teachers over the protest scheduled on January 30, JK General Line Teachers Forum (GLTF) on Wednesday decided not to participate in the protest called by Chairman School Education Employees Coordination Committee (SEECC). In a statement to KNS, the forum said it does not support the strike call by ‘some teacher associations’ onJanuary 30. “We do not believe in strike politics,” Chairman GLTF Anwar Hussain Wani said in the statement. The forum supported the Director School Education, Kashmir, (DSEK), Shah Faesal, for taking steps for the betterment of the derailed education sector of the valley. “The department has every right to transfer the teachers where ever they like for the benefit of the student community and no teacher should have hindrance in that,” the statement reads. The forum has appealed to the civil society to come forward for supporting the steps taken for the reformation of the education sector. Meanwhile, a delegation of PG masters told KNS that they do not support the strike call by Abdul Qayooom Wani. While supporting the Shah Faesal, the teachers asked that why did the Qayoom Wani and his association remain silent when a former director “ruined” the education sector. “Qayoom Wani opposes today’s reforming steps taken by the present director. Why did he and his association maintain silence when a former director ruined the department during his tenure,” the PD masters asked. “We have full confidence on Shah Faesal as he is trying to streamline the department, especially the transfer process,” they said.
