Two army men and five militants were Saturday killed in an encounter erupted between forces and militants at Marsari area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday afternoon. Officials had said that the militants were holed up in a residential house of Ghulam Muhammad Wani, son of Ablee Wani of Marsari, Chowkibal. In a fierce gun battle, the militants were killed after 18-hour long battle between forces and militants. SSP Kupwara, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat told KNS that five militant and two army men were killed while four army personnel sustained injuries in the gun fight erupted between forces and militants on Friday afternoon. “We suspected that three to four militants are taking hide inside the house but as soon as the encounter ended, we came to know about the presence of fifth militant there,” he said. He said that the actual identification has not been ascertained so far but the militants wearing white clothes indicate that they were from Jaish-e-Muhammad. “We also recovered five AK-47 and 25 magazines from the debris of the house of Ghulam Muhammad Wani, son of Ablee Wani where the militants were hiding. The dress code and the other material recovered from the site indicate that the militants have infiltrated recently. He said that two army men lost their lives in fierce gun fight while two more received injuries. “Army personnel from 41 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 16 Garhwal and the police’s special operation group were part of the ongoing operation,” he said, adding that no civilian received injuries during the gunfight.
