Two CRPF men were killed and nine others injured this evening after militants attacked a CRPF convoy near JK EDI headquarters at Pampore in southern Pulwama district. Police sources told KNS that a Head Constable of CRPF identified as Bhulla Singh of 144 battallion and Constable RK Raina died of their bullet injuries suffered in the militant attack. SP Awantipora, Muhammad Irshad told KNS that the police has safely evacuated all the employees of EDI who were trapped in the five-storey buliding. He said that three to four militants are hiding in the EDI building. Police, army, and CRPF have laid a tight cordon around the building where 3-4 militants are believed to be inside the building, police said. CRPF spokesman, Bhavnesh Kumar told KNS that there are unconfirmed reports that a CRPF personnel has lost his life but the same has not been confirmed thus far. He said that 11 CRPF personnel have been injured in the militant attack, and among those injured personnel eight have been shifted to hospital for treatment. “The militants after attacking CRPF convey hid in the EDI building,” he said. All traffic has been suspended after the encounter broke out, and the vehicles have been diverted to other routes to and fro Srinagar and South Kashmir. The encounter is ongoing till this report was filed.
