At least 55 shops including Godowns and local hotels were gutted in a mysterious fire in the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday in Uri town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. According to KNS correspondent, almost 55 shops were gutted in fire, which broke out from a local hotel there. The cause of blaze was not ascertained till the report was filed. According to him, locals, army and officials from Fire and Emergency Services brought the fire into control, but the people suffered huge loss of their properties. He said that due to the blaze, the people whose shops, other establishments were gutted suffered a loss of almost rupees 50 crore. Locals said, “The administration does not pay any heed to our demands. We have been pleading them for fire stations in our villages but there is no response.” He said that due to the sole fire tender in our area, the fire incidents get worst and the damages are huge. He said that the population of of whole district depends on a single fire tender. “We mostly rely on the infrastructure of Army and NHPC,” they said, adding that the damage in the midnight fire incident is more because of the non-availability of proper infrastructure. Meanwhile, a top police official said that the fire broke out from a local hotel here while its cause is yet to be ascertained.
