Srinagar: Friday, 06 May 2016: A joint initiative between Indian Army, Tata Trust (an NGO) and Civil Administration of Leh with regard to ‘Capability building in the local Farm Sector of Ladakh’ was kicked off in a public function at Leh on 06 May 2016. CEC LAHDC (Leh) Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo, Chief of Staff, Fire & Fury Corps and other dignitaries attended the event, apart from representatives of civil population.
In the first phase 23 metric Tons of new technology, hybrid Potato seeds, procured by TATA Trust were transported from Pune to Chandigarh & onward to Leh in Defence Aircraft for distribution to farmers of Nang, Stakmo & Umla villages of Leh district. It is intended to develop these villages as nodal hubs for New Technology Potato seed production & distribution in Ladakh & Kargil regions. The initiative is a result of a joint seminar conducted under the chairmanship of GOC, Fire & Fury Corps & CEC, LAHDC (Leh) along with reps Mr Abhay Gandi of TATA trust in Sep 2015. This initiative is expected to revolutionise potato production in Ladakh region.
