Residents of Gantamulla Colony of North Kashmir’s Baramulla District have alleged that they are living without electricity from past 10 days due to which they have been facing multiple problems in absence of electricity.
We are facing hardships even our children are under gloomy which forced us to use candlelights to prepare our children for exams locals alleged.
The 32 families living in the tin shed quarters of NHPC in Gantamulla Colony from past 11 years are without electricity from 10 days.
The families mostly women and children assembled in the colony on friday morning and staged a protest, shouting slogans against the PDD and blamed PDD officials for illegally cut their power supply line ten days ago and are not restoring it, said Abdul Latief a local resident to Kashmir Despatch.

Shaziea , a local woman told Kashmir Despatch despite several pleas to civil administration, nothing has been done to provide electricity to this area.
Another inhabbitant while talking with Kashmir Despatch said that the families who lost their homes in 2005 earthquake had been alloted tinshed quarters of NHPC on temporary bases till the government will provide them complete relief for the construction of new houses, however 11 years to go the government neither help them financially nor they provide them any land for construction of houses. The inbbitants further added however despite help they are forcing us to leave the quarters.
The Inhabbitants of NHPC in Gantamulla Colony told Kashmir Despatch as on one hand government is going to give land to non state subjects ,why not they rehabilitate us “where we will go” they asked government.
