Srinagar | June 13 : Paying glowing tributes to Ghulam Mohammad Guroo of Rajbagh who gave his life while saving a group of tourists in river Jhelum, former minister and MLA Amirakadal Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Monday termed Guroo’s intrepidity as a reflection of Kashmiri’s spirit of sacrifice.
In a statement issued here, Bukhari extended the condolences to the family of Guroo—a 60-year-old boatman who without caring for his life, jumped into the river Jhelum after his Shikara carrying the tourists, capsized near Fateh Kadal bridge to rescue nearly drowned tourists.
He said that Guroo’s supreme sacrifice will be remembered in the annals of Kashmir history. “The deceased has exemplified the kindness and compassion as he died of drowning for saving the tourists and retrieving their personal belongings,” Bukhari remarked.
The former minister said that there Guroo has set an example of gallantry to espouse the cause of age old traditions of hospitality and harmony of Jammu and Kashmir. Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family of late Guroo, Bukhari prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
