1. Sudden Severe storm and heavy rains lashed Gulmarg Valley on the evening of 15th June. Numerous trees got uprooted and resulting slides blocked roads Gulmarg – Butapathri and Tangmarg- Ziran.
2. The Army Garrison at Gulmarg in close coordination with local authorities and civil police immediately launched columns from Gulmarg and Butapathri towards Nagin area to clear multiple slides and blocks. These columns reached the affected areas braving the storm and moved the film crew of “IDGAH” stranded due to road blocks to safe areas preventing any loss of life. The film crew comprising 140 persons and 37 vehicles was later safely escorted to Gulmarg after opening of road by the Army. Simultaneously, Army columns reached affected area of Nagin Dhoks along with local police to evacuate family of Mohd Ashraf Khan whose Dhok was crushed by falling of trees due to the storm. The affected family was rushed to Tangmarg for medical aid by local civil authorities with support from above Army Columns. While two members of the family survived, girl Ekara Banoo, aged 4 ½ years sadly succumbed to her injuries. The relief operations and opening of affected road axis by Army continued through out the night. Locals in the area were grateful for timely action by the Army and civil authorities which prevented further loss of life and property.
