Srinagar, July 01 : A gunfight broke out along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday.
Reports reaching news agency said that a firing incident reported near Eagle post in the sector. The firing according to reports started at around 7:30 am and continued intermittently till 8:30 am.
A senior police officer when contacted said that he will ascertain the details and will communicate accordingly.
Meanwhile, an army official claimed that some infiltrators believed to be three to four in number tried to sneak into this side near Eagle post, the army’s 26 Rajput manning the fence intercepted the group and challenged there move today in the morning.
After being challenged, the infiltrators opened fire resulting into a brief gunfight, he told.
However, it couldn’t be immediately ascertained whether the group returned back or have been gunned down, he said.
“It will be clear once the search operation will be over in the area”, he said.
So far massive search operation with the help of army’s 4 Para troopers is under way in the area, the officer added. (GNS).
