SRINAGAR | JULY 10 : A complete shutdown was observed in Kulgam and Shopian towns of South Kashmir today against the police raids and arrests.
Reports said that scores of people held demonstrations against fresh police raids and arrests in Kulgam. Protesters from Naikpora area of Kulgam took to streets and raised slogans against the alleged highhandedness of forces.
The protesters alleged that police raided many houses in the area during night and arrested six youth from their residences. They also alleged police ransacked houses during nocturnal raids. The protesters were demanding immediate release of the arrested.
Pertinently the town is observing shutdown for the second consecutive day against the forces highhandedness. On Saturday forces tried to enter a village in Shopian when “Taranas” were being played on Masjid loudspeakers eulogizing slain Hizb commander Burhan Wani. The forces were confronted by the youth with stone pelting who resort to pellet firing. Eight women protesters were injured in the police action. (PTK)
