Sopore : Contractors of Sopore belt on Wednesday held its elections under the Board Chairman Aijaz Ahmed Dar, General Secretary Mohammad Saleem Khuroo at their office in north Kashmir’s Sopore town.
The elections conducted after two years were held in a peaceful atmosphere.
Ghulam Hassan Wani of Watlab was elected as president of Union, he got 63 votes out of 103 votes while Irshad Ahmed begged 39 votes.
However for the general Secretary post two candidates contested in which Hafeezullah Faktoo was elected with 65 votes while Bashir Ahmed begged 37 votes.
Meanwhile newly elected president Ghulam Hassan reiterated his resolve that every member will be taken into confidence and every decision of the association will be taken in a democratic manner, while all members of the contractors Union assured their support to the president.
