Thousands attend funeral of slain Lolab man

Lolab, Sep 11 (GNS): Thousands of people on Tuesday participated in funeral prayers of a man, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Khanyar area of Srinagar on Monday night.

Reports reaching news gathering agency Global News Service (GNS) said that thousands of people assembled at Sheikh Mohalla, Lalpora here when the body of Abdul Ahad Ganai reached his native village this afternoon. The mourners chanted slogans demanding an independent probe into Ganai’s killing.

“We suspect a conspiracy behind the killing of Abdul Ahad. He had no animosity with anyone and he had no political connections,” the mourners said.

“We demand an independent probe into his killing. He has been killed in cold blood,” they added.

Meanwhile, Ganai’s body was carried in a procession amid tears and sobs. His funeral prayers were held at Eidgah Lalpora before the body was lowered in the grave.

Ganai, according to his relatives was settled in Srinagar from a decade. He had graduated in 2004. (GNS)
