NEW DELHI, May 12: In a major development for domestic and international air travellers, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has announced the resumption of civil aircraft operations at 32 airports across the country. The announcement comes after a temporary suspension of services that had been in effect till 05:29 hours on May 15, 2025.
The AAI, through a press release issued by its Corporate Communications Directorate, confirmed that the temporary closure—earlier communicated via a reference notice—has now been lifted. All 32 airports impacted by the order are now operational for civil flights with immediate effect.
The brief closure, which was implemented as a precautionary or regulatory measure, affected several key regional and domestic travel hubs, causing a temporary disruption in air travel plans for thousands of passengers. However, no further reasons for the suspension were disclosed in the statement.
“It is informed that these airports are now available for civil aircraft operations with immediate effect,” read the official release.
The authority has also urged travellers to remain vigilant and stay updated on their flight schedules. “It is recommended for travellers to check flight status directly with airlines and monitor airline websites for regular updates,” the release stated.
The communication also directed travellers and stakeholders seeking more details to contact the Corporate Communication Department at 011-20818228.
This update comes as a relief to both airlines and passengers, especially those relying on regional connectivity for business, tourism, and personal travel. Industry insiders anticipate that normal operations will resume swiftly, though some residual delays and re-scheduling are expected in the next 24 hours.
