PULWAMA, Dec 24: Seven athletes from Tral area of Pulwama in South Kashmir have been selected for Yogasana National Championships, scheduled to be held in Maharashtra and Rajasthan states.
As per the official figures, three players namely Firdous Ahmad, Feroz Ahmad Bhat and Suhail Ahmad Bhat have been selected for senior category competition, scheduled to be held at Rajasthan, while four others, namely Rayees Ahmad, Faizan Ahmad, Tabish Altaf and Mohammad Momin Thoker have been selected for Junior and Sub Junior category competitions respectively, which are scheduled to be held in Maharashtra.
The athletes were selected after showing extraordinary performance in District and UT level competitions, as they bagged gold medals with their outstanding performance.
While talking to Kashmir Despatch, the athletes said that they are very happy as they are the first athletes, who are going to participate in Yogasana National Championships at Udaipur Rajasthan and Mumbai (Maharashtra).
The athletes belong to a local martial academy, titled “Leeniv Martial Art Club”, which is being headed by a renowned athlete, Feroz Ahmad Bhat from Lurow Jagir Tral.
One of the athletes from the Leeniv Martial Club, named Syed Aarif, while highlighting the importance of Yogasana Sport, has said that this is the emerging sport, which belongs to A category. He appealed to youngsters to ensure full participation in the said sport.
Notably, “Yogasana was formally recognised as a sport in 2020, with the National Yoga Sports Federation being the official governing body for the sport in India.”
