BANDIPORA, Mar 10: Nissara Begum, a sweeper from Sonerwani village of Bandipora, has been receiving a monthly wage of Rs 25 from the Education department for the last 30 years.

Despite her struggles and patience, she feels disappointed with the meager amount and has been ignored for decades while new workers are being paid.

Nissara, who has a handicapped daughter, is finding it difficult to make ends meet. The locals of the area have also requested the authorities to intervene in this matter and provide justice to her.

“I have been working here for the last 30 years and it is very disappointing that I have been just paid Rs 25 a month for my work. I have a daughter who is handicapped and the situation at home is totally bad. They have appointed new workers who are being paid but I have been ignored for three decades,” added Nissara while talking to Kashmir Despatch.

A few locals who talked to Kashmir Despatch on the subject said: “This lady has been working here for the last 25-30 years and it’s really unfortunate that she is being paid just a sum of Rs 25/month. This is totally injustice with her and we request the government to look into this matter so that justice can be delivered to her,” added a local resident

According to the Chief Education Officer Bandipora, Abdul Majid Malik, Nissara is receiving a monthly wage of Rs 75 for her work. He also mentioned that the government has created a policy to regularize CPE’s and CPW’s with a minimum qualification of 8th pass, and there is no policy for those who don’t fall in this category and have passed the age of 60.
