War against drug peddlers in Sopore: J&K Police arrests 51 peddlers in 31 NDPS cases

Sopore, May 20: With Jammu and Kashmir Police cracking a whip on drug peddlers/dealers across the Police district Sopore in north Kashmir, so far the h 51 arrests have been made in 31 NDPS cases while as one person has been booked under PSA.

Official figures accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), revealed that at least 31 cases of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) have been registered since January this year in North Kashmir’s Sopore.

The data reads that 51 drug peddlers were arrested across the Police district, besides one notorious drug peddler was booked under the draconian law PSA and is languishing in Jammu jail.

“103 bottles of contraband were recovered so far in this year, while as 5912 banned capsules, 10 kgs wet Charas, 46 grams Brown Sugar, 2.70 grams Heroin, 25 kg Fuki, 2.5 kgs of cannabis straw, 23.330 kgs of poppy straw, besides Rs 56400 were recovered, it further revealed.

Meanwhile, seeking public cooperation, a senior Police official said that they will act tough against drug peddlers and dealers as police are on a task to eliminate drug addiction across the district.

He said senior citizens have a role in curbing the menace in society. “Police would be a helping hand to those who want to get rid of drug addiction”, he added.

“Our aim is to make Sopore a drug free (Police) district. We need your support. Reach out to us and share inputs on drug peddlers. Your identity will be kept confidential,” the official said—(KNO)
