‘Collaborate with ICAR for benefit to farming community’

SRINAGAR, June 12: Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR, New Dehli, Dr. U. S. Gautam visited various units of SKUAST (Kashmir), High Mountain Arid Agriculture Research Institute, Leh Ladakh along with Director ATARI, Ludhiana, Dr. Parvendar Sheron and Director Extension, Dr. Dil Mohammad Makhdomi today.
They were apprised by Associate Director, Dr. D. Namgyal about the various technologies developed and demonstrated at PFDC Leh.
They appreciated various low cost protected structures, Innovative Green House Technologies using earth tube heat exchanger and structures based on waste materials such as old tyres and plastic bottles, cut-flowers.
“Stress is given on production of quality produce of vegetables being produced at PFDC, HMAARI and growing indigenous medicinal plants in the region to upgrade the socio-economic status of the tribal farmers,” a handout issued by the SKUAST (Kashmir) said.
DDG Agri. Extension, Dr. Gautam directed to transfer these innovative technologies to the concerned extension departments. He also emphasized to collaborate with ICAR ATARI to forward projects which will directly benefit to the farming community of this region.
According to Nisar Ahmad Bhat, PA to Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir, later, they visited to the experimental field crop block of the station where high value low volume indigenous crops like buckwheat, millets, barley etc. are under cultivation. It is pertinent to mention that it is the maiden visit of DDG (Agri. Extension), ICAR, to Ladakh region.
