Organizes Media Health Camp in Collaboration with PIB Srinagar

In a significant gesture of support for the media community, PARAS group of hospitals collaborated with the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Srinagar to conduct a free health check-up camp exclusively for journalists. The event aimed to prioritize the well-being of those who tirelessly bring news and information to the public.
Additional Director General (Region), Press Information Bureau (PIB) Srinagar, Rajinder Chaudhry today inaugurated this free health check-up camp at Press Enclave, Srinagar in presence of Joint Director, PIB Srinagar, Qazi Salman and Deputy Director, PIB Srinagar, Tariq Ahmad Rather.
This is first of its kind free health check-up camp at Srinagar providing high quality healthcare services to the media fraternity involving one of the reputed and specialized tertiary care hospital based in Srinagar.
The event provided a range of medical services including general health check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar tests, BMI measurements, and consultations with specialist doctors.
The hospital’s spokesperson, expressed the hospital’s commitment to the welfare of the media fraternity, stating, “Journalists play a crucial role in society by keeping the public informed. However, their own health often takes a back seat due to their demanding schedules. With this health camp, we wanted to acknowledge their efforts and offer them a platform to prioritize their health.”
The camp also featured informative sessions on stress management and maintaining a healthy work-life balance, considering the unique challenges journalists face in their profession. Experts from the hospital’s psychology department addressed the psychological impact of reporting from conflict zones and delivering news in high-pressure environments.
A senior journalist who availed of the health check-up, shared her appreciation for the initiative. “In a profession where deadlines and breaking news are constant, it’s easy to neglect our health. This health camp not only provided us with essential medical check-ups but also reminded us of the importance of self-care.”
The collaboration between PARAS Hospital and PIB Srinagar received praise from various quarters, including media organizations, healthcare professionals, and local authorities. Syed Basharat, Editor-in-Chief Kashmir Despatch, lauded the effort as a step towards creating awareness about health among media professionals.
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony where journalists were presented with certificates of participation and informational brochures on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The success of the health camp has prompted discussions about making it an annual event, ensuring continued support for the health and well-being of Srinagar’s media personnel.
In an era where the media plays a pivotal role in shaping public opinion, initiatives like the PARAS Hospital health camp underscore the importance of acknowledging the efforts of journalists while also addressing their unique health challenges.
While inaugurating the camp, Chaudhry said that since media sometimes works in a stressful environment under difficult situations, they must focus on their overall health and must follow the universal mantra ‘prevention is better than cure’.
Chaudhary also expressed hope that media will take forward this message of the importance of preventive healthcare check-ups up to the common man.
Journalist, Fayaz Bukhari appreciated this initiative of PIB Srinagar and said that these kind of health check-up camps must be organized regularly for media as their stressful work environment is sometimes contributing to different health problems which must be taken care of at an early stage.
More than 150 journalists belonging to different media organizations were examined by a team of specialists including Dr. Afshan Shabir, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Dr. Shabeer Ahmad Paul, Consultant Neurology and Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Rather, Consultant, Interventional Cardiologist at PARAS Health, Srinagar.
