In an unprecedented move, the Baramulla Police in north Kashmir has taken the fight against drug peddlers to an entirely new level.
As per Kashmir Despatch during this year alone, they have successfully frozen properties belonging to drug smugglers, amounting to a staggering value of Rs. 2.1 Crores.
The seized assets include three residential houses, three private vehicles with an estimated value of 90.02 lacs, and an astonishing cash amount of Rs. 1.2 Crore.
The crackdown targeted drug smuggling hotspots in Pattan, Kreeri, Kamalkote Uri, and Nambla Uri Baramulla, operating under the ambit of sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of the NDPS Act of 1985.
The freezing of properties is an extremely stringent provision within the NDPS Act, specifically designed to empower law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against drug peddlers who have amassed wealth through illicit drug trades.
The Baramulla Police has aptly utilized this financial action to strike a major blow to the economic foundations of the drug business.
By seizing and freezing properties and assets, the Baramulla Police has effectively disrupted the financial aspects of the drug trade, dealing a severe blow to the ill-gotten gains acquired through this illicit business.
