FIR registered against fake domicile certificate issuance in Kishtwar; Police

Date:

Kishtwar, Oct 05 ; The Kishtwar police have taken action against the issuance of fake domicile certificates in the district.

A senior police officer told news agency Kashmir Scroll that an FIR (No. 22/2023) has been registered at the Dachhan Police Station under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code.

He said the FIR is against a Rohingya woman named Anwara Begum, along with others involved in the fraud and conspiracy.

The police acted on a tip-off regarding the issuance of a domicile certificate to Anwara Begum in the Dachhan area of Kishtwar District.

The certificate was allegedly issued on 19th September 2020 by the then Tehsildar Dachhan.

The officer said that Investigation into the matter has begun, but no arrests have been made thus far.

Anwara Begum is also in possession of an ADHAAR card. Interestingly, she has been involved in legal trouble before.

In 2012, she was booked under FIR No: 14/2012 at the Dachhan Police Station under the Passport Entry into India Act and Foreign Act. She, along with five others, was convicted by the local court following the submission of a challan by the Kishtwar police.

In the previous case, it was alleged that Zahoor Ahmed Chopan of Kiyar Dachhan had allegedly purchased Anwara Begum for a sum of Rs. 1 lakh from Noor-ul-Islam. However, under political pressure at that time, the police omitted Zahoor Chopan’s name from the final challan presented in court. The challan (No. 10/2012) included charges against five individuals, including two other women and some juveniles, who were separately challaned.

The Kishtwar police’s swift response to this fraudulent issuance of a domicile certificate demonstrates their commitment to upholding the law.

The investigation will shed further light on the circumstances surrounding this case and bring the responsible individuals to justice the officer further added. (KS)
