Head Constable Ghulam Mohammed Dar, a devoted father to seven daughters, met a tragic end in a gunman’s attack near his Tangmarg residence on Tuesday evening.

The shocking incident not only plunged the whole area into grief but also left the family’s seven daughters grappling with the sudden loss of their father.

As tears stream down their faces, the once joyous anticipation of an upcoming wedding now mingles with the profound sorrow of an irreparable loss. The haunting question lingers: “Who will take care of us now?”

With tears streaming down the faces of the girls, the dreams of a brighter future have been cruelly snatched away. The emotional trauma they are experiencing is unfathomable.

As they sit huddled together in a corner of their home, their hearts heavy with grief, the daughters find themselves grappling with a painful reality.

“Who will take care of us now? Today it happened to our Abu; tomorrow it could be us,” one of the elder daughters tearfully expressed while talking to The Kashmir Despatch.

Recalling the fateful day, she reveals the heartbreaking details.

“Our home was undergoing repairs, and a plumber had just finished his work. He requested that our Abu drop him off at his house. Little did we know that it would be the last time we would see our father alive,” she says, her voice trembling with emotion while talking to The Kashmir Despatch.

Before we could comprehend what was happening, the sound of gunshots echoed through our tranquil neighborhood.

Panic-stricken, we rushed to the gate, only to find our beloved Abu lying on the ground, blood staining the pavement.

“Our neighbors quickly came to our aid and rushed him to the hospital, but it was too late. We were left in a state of shock and disbelief; our lives were shattered in an instant.”

The pain and uncertainty that now engulf the household are unbearable.

“We lost our senses when we saw our Abu lying there. We don’t know how to move forward. Who will look after us now?” one of the daughters asks, her voice choking with sorrow while talking with this reporter.

Adding to their distress is the realization that tragedy has struck just days before the wedding of one of the daughters.

“What was supposed to be a joyous occasion has now turned into a somber affair, riddled with grief and heartbreak.”

The attack came a day after unidentified militants shot dead a non-local laborer in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday, and just two days after an inspector of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was also shot at by militants while he was playing cricket close to his home in Srinagar on Sunday. As per the last reports, the police officer’s condition was critical.
