Indian Railways is a leader in providing employment to people directly and indirectly

More than 40 lakh jobs were generated by Indian Railways in the last 09 years.

NEW DELHI, Nov 9: Economy of the New India is strengthening day by day and Indian Railways play a significant role in this development. This is evident from the fact that Indian Railways has generated more than 40 lakh jobs in the last nine (09) years by generating employment directly and indirectly.

To promote employment, the Rozgar Mela was also inaugurated by the Hon. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji on October 22nd of last year under which lakhs of jobs were created by Indian Railways.

This year, appointment letters were also handed over to more than 51,000 candidates in the Rozgar Mela held on October 28, 2023, for almost 14 thousand jobs created by Indian Railways. With the help of this fair, about 1 lakh jobs were generated by Indian Railways in the last year.

While 4,11, 224 people were given employment from 2004 to 2014 by Indian Railways which further increased to 4,99,000 job opportunities in the last 9 years from 2014 to 2023. This means that in the period of 2004- 2014, 41,000 jobs were created every year while in the period of 2014- 2023, more than 50,000 jobs were provided by the Indian Railways.

Due to the construction of the new railway tracks, 33 thousand manpower days of employment have also been indirectly generated in the last years, which directly provided employment to about 5 lakh people.

Under the Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan, Indian Railways provided 9,79,557 daily wage employments till 18 September 2020 in six states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Last year, the world’s largest online examination was conducted by Railways in which more than 1.11 crore candidates appeared from all over the country. This examination was successfully conducted in a transparent manner by Indian Railways. Despite the Corona epidemic, it is noteworthy that Railways has provided employment by conducting such competitive examinations for providing employment to the youths.

To generate employment, Indian Railways has also launched the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to renovate its 1309 stations across the country and to cater to the wider needs of passengers and equip them with modern facilities. In the initial phase, there will be redevelopment of 508 stations which will generate many direct and indirect employment opportunities for people.

Many infrastructure projects of Railways are in progress and these have also generated direct and indirect employment opportunities for lakhs of people. Indian Railways will provide new dimensions of employment to the human labor force through its ongoing work.
