Kulgam, Nov. 17: The top army official on Friday said that an overground worker (OGW) network has been identified in the southern region of Kashmir, and suitable legal action has been initiated.

Commander 2 Sect. Brigadier Anirudh Chauhan as per Kashmir Despatch Correspondent while addressing a press conference after the successful Kulgam operation, during which five local militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit were killed said the success of this operation is unprecedented and is believed to be the core of escalating violence in the Kashmir valley.

The officer said that the network of overground workers has been identified, and appropriate action is being taken against them.

Meanwhile, the police have identified all five militants as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh from Chak Chollen in Shopian district, who joined the militant cadre in August 2021. Danish Ahmad Thokar and Ubaid Ahmad Padder, both residents of Chakoora village in Shopian, have been active since March and September 2022, respectively. Yasir Bilal, a local of Wanpoh village in Kulgam, has been active since May 2022, and Hanzullah Yaqoob Shah from the Rawalpora area of Shopian joined the militant group TRF in July this year.

The gunfight, which lasted for about 24 hours according to security officials, broke out on Thursday after security forces including the Indian Army, J&K Police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched an operation in the Samno village of Kulgam.
