Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed the Supreme Court verdict upholding the abrogation of Article 370 as “historic” and a reaffirmation of India’s unity.

Taking to microblogging site “X”, PM Modi as per Kashmir Despatch described the verdict as a declaration of hope, progress, and unity for the people of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on to reassure the people of the region that his government remains committed to fulfilling their dreams and extending the benefits of progress to the most vulnerable sections of society.

He emphasized that the abrogation of Article 370 was necessary to address the grievances and suffering of these sections and promised a better future.

The prime minister hailed the verdict as more than just a legal judgment, stating that it symbolizes hope, a brighter future, and the collective resolve of the Indian people to build a stronger, more united India. He further used the hashtag “NayaJammuKashmir” to underscore the promise of a new, revitalized Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir lost its special status under Article 370 in August 2019, following the BJP’s landslide victory in elections and the prime minister’s fulfillment of a major election promise.

The decision to abrogate Article 370 sparked both praise and controversy, with supporters commending it as a necessary step for integration while critics argued that it undermined the region’s autonomy.
