SRINAGAR: Saifuddin Lone, former IAS officer in Jammu and Kashmir, is no more. Retired almost 20 years back, Lone was unwell for some time. He was popularly known as SD Lone.
Lone retired soon after he completed his tenure as Deputy Commissioner Pulwama. He was a KAS officer who was later inducted into IAS based on seniority. Basically from Dardhharia in north Kashmir, SD Lone was the son-in-law of slain politician Abdul Gani Lone. He was living in Sanat Nagar Srinagar. His son Salman is in the IT sector.
Family sources said he is being laid to rest at the family’s Humhama graveyard tonight.
Lone was from the rare breed of administrators who were very popular with people. He belonged to the few who administered the challenging districts at the most crucial juncture of the recent past.
