High Voter Turnout Leads to Longer Lines: CEO

Rebuts Reports of Slow Voting

Srinagar, May 13: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pandurang Kondbarao Pole rebutted news on some social media platforms as baseless and fake.

In a post as per Kashmir Despatch, the CEO said the ongoing elections in Srinagar, Budgam, Shopian, Ganderbal, and Pulwama districts have been marked by an overwhelming voter turnout, showcasing the deep commitment of the people to exercise their democratic rights.

He said, “In some social media posts, it is mentioned that voting is slow. However, long queues are at Polling Stations.”

He clarified that the speed of the EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) is the same everywhere, and the polling staff is working diligently to facilitate all.

Normally, there used to be a very low poll percentage and fewer numbers of voters in queues. It is heartwarming to see that voters in large numbers are coming to vote in all areas, including in Shahar-e-khas areas of Srinagar city. Naturally, to come your turn in a long queue, voters have to wait. Rest assured, the polling staff is working hard to facilitate all.

As per the ECI (Election Commission of India) rule, if there is a queue of voters at the close of poll time, that is 6:00 pm, voting will continue until the voting of all standing in the queue is completed.

The CEO expressed gratitude towards the voters of Srinagar, Budgam, Shopian, Ganderbal, and Pulwama districts for coming in large numbers to vote. There is festivity and normalcy in every Polling Station, the post further reads.
