Spectrum Auction 2023-24 Rakes in Rs 11,340 Crore, Enabling Telecom Providers to Expand Services

New Delhi : The Spectrum Auction 2023-24 concluded successfully, bringing in a revenue of Rs 11,340 Crores.

As per details available with The Kashmir Despatch this auction was held to meet the new spectrum requirement of Telecom Service Providers and for the renewal of expiring licenses, ensuring continuity and growth of mobile services.

An official told Kashmir Despatch that a total quantum of 141.4 MHz spectrum was sold in this auction, covering bands such as 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 2500 MHz. Despite a large amount of spectrum being sold in 2022, the auction was still able to sell a significant portion of the available spectrum.

He said all three major Telecom Service Providers, M/s Bharti Airtel Limited, M/s Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, and M/s Vodafone Idea Limited, successfully bid and acquired spectrum in this auction.

The official said that this acquisition will enable them to expand their services and ensure uninterrupted connectivity for their customers.

He said that, M/s Bharti Airtel Ltd. and M/s Vodafone Idea Ltd. have also successfully renewed their expired spectrum in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands, further strengthening their services. In total, TSPs have acquired an additional quantum of 87.2 MHz worth Rs 6164.88 crores.

The official however said that any unsold spectrum from this auction will be put up for auction again in the future, ensuring that there will be ample opportunities for Telecom Service Providers to meet their spectrum requirements.

He said overall, the successful conclusion of the Spectrum Auction 2023-24 is great news for the telecom industry, as it will support the growth and development of mobile services in India.
