Enhanced telemedicine, smooth helicopter services vital for SANJY pilgrims at SKIMS

Srinagar, Jul 16 : Medical Superintendent of SKIMS, Dr. Farooq A Jan, has said that a total of 82 critically ill Shri Amarnathji Yatra pilgrims requiring super-specialty care have been treated at SKIMS, with 72 successfully discharged.

He highlighted the pivotal role of Telemedicine facilities and efficient Helicopter Services, which have proven crucial in managing these patients. These services, alongside other facilities, are instrumental in providing timely and effective care to critically ill patients referred to SKIMS.

As per a statement issued, Director SKIMS, Dr. M Ashraf Ganie, chaired online tele-session with the team of SKIMS & team of Baltalbase Shri Amarnathji Yatra on 15-07-2024, accompanied by the Dean Medical Faculty, SKIMS, Medical Superintendent, Heads of Cardiology and Critical Care, along with other specialist doctors, Dr. Ganie emphasized that SKIMS, through technology, not only bridges gaps in healthcare delivery but also prioritizes the well-being and safety of Shri Amarnathji Yatra patients.

At SKIMS, our commitment to providing exceptional medical care to pilgrims of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2024 remains unwavering. SKIMS remains steadfast in its mission to prioritize patient safety and recovery, with dedicated teams, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and supported by a comprehensive network of services including telemedicine and critical care transport, stand ready to deliver the highest standards of care.

“Our protocol from patient reception to discharge is designed to optimize the treatment journey,” stated Dr. M Ashraf Ganie, Director SKIMS. “Each patient is initially assessed in our Emergency Department and subsequently transferred to specialized wards as needed. Our helipad operations adhere to stringent security protocols, ensuring safe and efficient patient transfers.”

The integration of pressing helicopter services and telemedicine has proven invaluable in the management of critically ill pilgrims of Shri Amarnathji yatra. A daily calendar of online meetings at 12:15 PM has been established between SKIMS and the Camp Director at Baltal Base, as stated by Dr. Shahnawaz Hamid, Nodal officer. This initiative aims to bolster coordination and ensure prompt medical assistance throughout the pilgrimage.

SKIMS has established a dedicated 18-bed Disaster Ward equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and staffed by a specialized team of doctors and nursing professionals. Additional facilities include ventilator-equipped units in Neuro ICU, Pulmonary ICU, and Critical Care ICU specifically designated for Shri Amarnathji Yatra pilgrims. Essential medications, dietary provisions, critical care transport, and operational helipad services further ensure comprehensive medical support.

This expansion reaffirms SKIMS’s commitment to leveraging technology for improving healthcare access, particularly in challenging environments such as pilgrimage sites.
