Srinagar, August 19 – In the lead-up to the assembly elections, significant developments are taking place in the political landscape of Kashmir. The region has undergone a significant transformation as it gears up for the upcoming assembly elections.
Reliable sources told Kashmir Despatch following the Gharwapsi of former minister, another prominent Pahari leader, Abdul Haq Khan, is expected to rejoin the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Sources close to the Pahari leader informed Kashmir Despatch that Haq Khan’s rejoining will take place tomorrow, to ensure that PDP maintains a strong hold in the upcoming assembly elections.
As per reliable sources, another development is in the works, where the recently appointed Congress President will be meeting the PDP President in the coming days, and an understanding is likely to be reached to reserve some assembly seats, and field their respective candidates on a mutual understanding.
According to sources, this will be a significant development for both political parties, allowing them to challenge the National Conference effectively.
Meanwhile, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday released the list of eight constituency in-charges for the upcoming assembly elections, including A.R. Veeri from Anantnag East, Sartaj Madni from Devsar, Dr. Mehboob Beigh from Anantnag, Gh. Nabi Lone from Hanjura Chaar-e-Shareef, Iltija Mufti from Bijbehara, Gh. Mohi-ud-din Wani from Watchi, Waheed ur Rehman Para from Pulwama, and Rafiq Ahmad Naik from Tral.
For the Bijbehara Assembly seat, the former minister and senior PDP leader Ab Rehman Veeri has won four times consecutively since 1998, but he has now been asked to contest the elections from the Anantnag East (Shangus Constituency).
