BANDIPORA, Sep 11: The political dynamics in Bandipora might be on the verge of a significant shift as former MLA and senior leader Nizam-ud-Din Bhat revealed on Wednesday that he is in discussions with the top leadership of the National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance.
In an exclusive interview with Kashmir Dispatch, Bhat responded to questions regarding his potential candidacy. When asked if the Congress cadre in Bandipora would support him if he receives a mandate from the alliance, he affirmed the party’s unity. “The committed workers of the party will stand with whatever decision is made by the leadership,” he stated.
Bhat expressed his commitment to serving the people of Bandipora if elected, pledging to prioritize the region’s development. The announcement of a Congress candidate for the Bandipora constituency has been delayed after the seat-sharing agreement with the NC.
“The people are aware of what is right and what is wrong. They won’t be swayed by sentimental politics again,” Bhat added.
Notably, Bhat had resigned from the PDP in 2021 and supported the People’s Conference during the last parliamentary elections. He had recently declared his intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming assembly elections, where he also unveiled his manifesto aimed at improving conditions for the people of Bandipora.
The evolving discussions between Bhat and the NC-Congress alliance could potentially reshape the political landscape in the district.
