SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 29: In preparation for the upcoming winter months, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has stored an additional 472 kiloliters (KL) of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) to operate 25 diesel generator sets of various capacities. This initiative aims to ensure a continuous power supply to unelectrified households in 22 villages located in the remote Gurez area of Bandipora District during the harsh winter season.
In conjunction with this effort, KPDCL has already issued tenders for establishing grid connectivity to the unelectrified households in the Gurez region. The Ministry of Power, Government of India, has sanctioned a total of Rs 50.15 crore for this project.
A spokesperson for KPDCL announced that the requirement for HSD to power the diesel generators in Gurez was estimated at 945.9 KL. “In addition to the 262.4 KL of HSD already available, we have stocked an extra 472 KL at various locations in Gurez ahead of the peak winter season to ensure a reliable power supply to consumers in 22 villages,” he stated.
These villages are situated in the Tulail and Kanzalwan sections of the Gurez region, within Bandipora district. The spokesman further noted that KPDCL is prepared to replenish HSD supplies and necessary materials as required to maintain power supply in the Gurez villages throughout the upcoming winter, in line with past practices.
To facilitate permanent grid connectivity to Gurez and eliminate the reliance on diesel generator sets, KPDCL has floated two tenders. These tenders cover the construction of a 6.3 MVA, 33/11 KV receiving substation and the electrification of 2,619 unelectrified households in Tulail and Kanzalwan. This project is part of the premier loss reduction scheme under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which has also received a financial sanction of Rs 50.15 crore from the Ministry of Power.
