Srinagar, Oct 29 : Syed Aga Ruhula, the Member of Parliament for Srinagar, has reached out to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah with heartfelt congratulations on his recent assumption of office.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Ruhula as per Kashmir Despatch expressed optimism about the new leadership, highlighting the significant opportunity for Abdullah to lead with vision and integrity.

Ruhula emphasized the importance of respecting the people’s mandate and aligning government actions with the aspirations of the citizens. He outlined several constructive suggestions aimed at fostering a thriving society and enhancing welfare across the region:
- Release of Prisoners: Advocating for justice, Ruhula urged the government to prioritize the release of prisoners held without trial, thereby reinforcing the rule of law and fairness.
- Rationalization of Reservation Policies: He suggested revisiting recent reservation policies to ensure a balanced approach that supports deserving individuals while promoting inclusivity.
- Filling of Vacancies: To combat unemployment and boost the local economy, Ruhula called for the prompt filling of government vacancies, promising valuable employment opportunities for many.
- Electricity Tariffs and Supply: With winter approaching, the letter stressed the urgency of addressing high electricity tariffs and ensuring a reliable supply, enabling families to withstand the harsh winter conditions.
- Verification Process: Lastly, Ruhula urged a review of the existing verification processes to ensure they are just and equitable, preventing unfair penalizations.
In closing his letter, Ruhula extended best wishes for Abdullah’s tenure, expressing hope that these recommendations will resonate with the Chief Minister as he seeks to fulfill the expectations of the people.
Omar Abdullah took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir earlier this month, marking the formation of the first elected government in the union territory since the revocation of its special status in 2019.
This is Abdullah’s second term in office. He pledged to provide balanced representation by including ministers from both the Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley.
The NC emerged as the single largest party in the recntly held assembly elections, securing 42 out of 90 assembly constituencies. Its pre-poll ally, the Congress, won 6 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed 29 seats, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 3 seats.
Notably, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, the Member of Parliament from Srinagar, is being credited for this electoral success.
Political analysts suggest that the NC’s substantial support during the elections was significantly linked to Mehdi’s unwavering opposition to the abrogation of Article 370. His stance has resonated with both long-time non-voters and individuals voting for the first time.
In the Lok Sabha elections, Mehdi won decisively against PDP leader Waheed Para by a margin of over 188,000 votes, and he took his oath in Kashmiri, highlighting the region’s rich linguistic heritage.
Throughout his speeches in the Valley, Mehdi strongly advised against any engagement with the BJP, which garnered considerable public interest and contributed to the NC’s resurgence in a complex political environment.
