Srinagar, Nov 04: Sunil Sharma, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, stated that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is not an ideological party; they only know how to spew poison and are involved in the politics of terrorism and Jamaat-e-Islami.
In an exclusive interview with Kashmir Despatch, Sharma expressed that the PDP never addresses the issues facing the people including roads, water other basic facility issues.
Sharma said that one of newly elected member of PDP is challenging Article 370, which he described as very sad and unfortunate. This Article was abolished by the Parliament’s most significant constitutional body.
Sharma emphasized that 543 elected members of Parliament debated and abolished Article 370, which now stands as a historical landmark. However, he criticized the PDP and the National Conference (NC) as two parties in Kashmir that prefer to see poor children on the streets.
He stated that these parties are currently troubled as discussions on development are taking place. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is advocating for the golden card initiative, but Sharma argued that this will not prevent the plight of poor children in Kashmir. He alleged that both the PDP and the National Conference intend to mislead the people of Kashmir regarding Article 370, whether in the Assembly or beyond.
Sharma further remarked that Article 370 has no connection or relevance to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir; it only serves as a provocation for impoverished children. Meanwhile, he pointed out that the sons of MLAs are now sitting in the House as second or third-generation MLAs, while the sons of the poor remain on the streets. This, he asserted, reflects the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) thirst for power.
Earlier in the day on first day of Jammu and Kashmir assembly PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para submitted a resolution seeking restoration of Article 370 to J&K.
“Sir, I congratulate you for being elected as the speaker of the House. We will learn a lot from your experience. Today, I have a resolution on behalf of my party that I want to submit before you. The resolution calls for the restoration of Article 370,” Para said .
