Mehbooba Mufti Calls for Probe in Civilian Killings After Grenade Attack Victim Succumbs

BANDIPORA, Nov 15: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti visited the family of Abida Kowser in Sumbal, Bandipora, on Thursday. Abida, who had been gravely injured in the recent grenade attack near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) in Srinagar, tragically succumbed to her injuries at SMHS Hospital. During her visit, Mufti expressed her heartfelt condolences to Abida’s grieving family, offering them support and solidarity in this difficult time.

Addressing the press outside the family’s residence, Mufti voiced her sorrow and condemnation over the escalating violence in Jammu and Kashmir, which has repeatedly claimed the lives of innocent civilians. “For decades now, Kashmir has witnessed an unending cycle of violence,” she said. “Each incident leaves children orphaned, women widowed, and families devastated. These senseless killings must stop.”

Mufti criticized the recent surge in such attacks, especially in the wake of the new government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. She called on authorities to take swift action to address the security concerns and identify the root causes of these tragic incidents. “The government must investigate thoroughly to understand why such attacks are on the rise,” she urged, “and to determine whether these are due to security lapses or underlying socio-political issues.”

The TRC grenade attack, which took place on November 3, injured twelve people, adding to the long list of casualties in the valley. The incident has sparked widespread concern and highlighted the urgent need for measures to ensure public safety in conflict-prone areas.
