Srinagar, Jan 2 : The Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma, announced on Thursday the ambitious goal of establishing Jammu and Kashmir’s own IPL team within the next two years.
Speaking to reporters, Sharma highlighted the valley’s potential and enthusiasm for sports, highlighting its ability to provide employment opportunities and boost local talent. “There is immense scope and potential among the youth here. Sports is also a way to create employment opportunities for them,” he said.
The minister expressed optimism about hosting IPL matches in the valley and commended the unmatched hospitality of Kashmiris, particularly during the recent snowfall that stranded many tourists. “The hospitality of Kashmiris is unparalleled. The ray of hope comes from here. I don’t think we can find secular people like those in Kashmir anywhere else,” Sharma remarked.
Sharma also addressed development and funding needs, urging for additional support from the Central government. “J&K is the crown of India, and its people have suffered immensely over the past 30 years. We deserve extra funds to live in comfort. Central support is essential to overcome financial challenges,” he stated.
The minister revealed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would soon visit Delhi to discuss these issues. “CM Omar Abdullah is going to Delhi in the next few days.
Very soon, good news will be shared with people here,” he said.
On sports governance, Sharma assured that the concerns of the 53 recognized sports associations in J&K would be thoroughly addressed after discussions with stakeholders.
