Over 400 arrested in bovine smuggling cases in Jammu last year: Police

Date:

Jammu — In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has intensified its fight against bovine smuggling in the Jammu district.

Under Operation Kamdhenu, aimed at safeguarding animal rights and addressing public concerns, the police achieved remarkable success by registering 378 FIRs, arresting 408 accused persons, and seizing 354 vehicles during the year 2024.

Additionally, 8 habitual offenders involved in bovine smuggling were detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) during this period.

Taking proactive measures, the police have opened history sheets and personal files on notorious smugglers and initiated the cancellation of Registration Certificates, Route Permits, and Licenses of vehicles repeatedly used in smuggling.

A robust database of offenders has also been developed to enhance future enforcement actions.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Jammu reaffirmed the department’s unwavering resolve to dismantle the bovine smuggling network. “Our efforts under Operation Kamdhenu reflect our commitment to protecting animal rights and addressing public sentiments. We will continue to intensify actions to eradicate this menace,” the SSP stated.

The success of Operation Kamdhenu highlights the Jammu Police’s dedication to enforcing the law and addressing pressing societal concerns.

Their sustained efforts are expected to leave a lasting impact, ensuring justice and promoting respect for animal welfare across the region. — (KIMS)
