Bandipora, Jan 04 : Four soldiers died after an Army truck skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday.

An official told Kashmir Despatch that an accident occurred when the driver lost control of the army truck while trying to negotiate a sharp curve near the Sadar Koot Payen area in the district. Some of the soldiers suffered critical injuries in the mishap.

All the injured soldiers were rushed to a local hospital following the incident.

MS Bandipora hospital, Dr Masarat said six of the five army personnel injured in the accident were brought to the facility. “Two of them were declared dead on arrival,” he said.

Three injured were referred to a hospital in Srinagar. However, one of them, who was critically injured, died on the way,” he added.

However, sources told Kashmir Despatch that another soldier kayed succumbed to his injuries taking the toll to 4, while two of the injured are said to be in stable condition and receiving further treatment sources added.

Sources identified all the deceased soldiers as Pawan Kumar,Hariram,Jatinder Kumar and Natish Kumar, while the injured have been identified as Garli Shankar and Valpa Kumar.

Army also In a statement to Kashmir Despatch said, “A vehicle of Indian Army skid and fell into the gorge due to inclement weather and poor visibility conditions. Injured soldiers were promptly evacuated for medical care with assistance from Kashmiri locals, for which we express gratitude towards the citizens in providing immediate succour.”

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences to the families of deceased and injured army soldiers in Bandipora road accident.

In a condolence message, the Lieutenant Governor has said: “Deeply grieved by the loss of lives of Indian Army personnel due to a tragic road accident in Bandipora. The nation is deeply grateful for their service and commitment.

My condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured”, it added.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic death of soldiers in the mishap.
