Srinagar, Jan 20: In a significant development, the high-powered committee constituted by the government has ordered the promotion of five Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS) officers, who are currently serving as Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP), to DIG-equivalent posts.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that the high-powered committee recently convened a meeting and approved the names of five officers for promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police.
The official stated today the five JKPS officers who have been promoted are Imtiyaz Hussain, the current SSP of Srinagar; Suhail Munawar, who serves as SSP of the Crime Branch; and Tahir Sajad Bhat, also an SSP.
The other two JKPS officers whose names have also been added for promotion to DIG are Ramesh Angral and Mohammed Irshad.
Imtiyaz Hussain Mir
Imtiyaz Hussain Mir is known for his extensive experience and dedication to maintaining law and order in challenging circumstances.
His career in the police force has been marked by various key postings, where he has demonstrated a strong commitment to public safety and effective policing.
Before being posted as SSP of Srinagar, Imtiyaz Hussain Mir served in several critical roles, contributing to the peace and stability of the Union Territory.
Meanwhile, sources told Kashmir Despatch that all five JKPS officers who have been promoted by the committee will not be designated as IGPs and DIGs, but as commissioners and directors.
Pertinently, From 2011 to 2021, no JKPS officer was inducted into IPS due to legal wrangles and other issues. However, during past about three years, nearly 44 JKPS officers have been inducted into the IPS as the UT Government and concerned departments vigorously pursued the issue of inductions with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
But the inductions were not enough and many JKPS officers have been working on the posts of SSPs for a long time and won’t be able to become DIGs unless they are inducted into IPS.
