Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Calls for Return of Kashmiri Pandits, Says It’s a Humanitarian Issue

Date:

Srinagar, Jan 31 : Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that the issue of Kashmiri Pandits is a humanitarian one, and the Muslims of Kashmir want their return.

“They will return to their homes and live peacefully with their Muslim brethren and again live in the same environment of love,” he stated. He emphasized that their return should not be linked to the Kashmir issue or politics.

In a conversation with Kashmir News Service (KNS), Mirwaiz revealed, “I have appealed many times from the pulpit of Jamia Masjid for the return of Kashmiri Pandits.” He stressed that their return has to be a collective effort. “The majority community will play its role in welcoming them, but they also have to minimize the differences,” he added.

He also mentioned that he met Kashmiri Pandit delegations and shared suggestions on how to move forward. “I had a long meeting with Kashmiri Pandits where we discussed ways to facilitate their return and restore trust,” he said.

Mirwaiz is currently in Delhi, where he has been engaging with Muslim leaders, intellectuals, and think tanks across the board regarding the issues of muslims and Waqaf Bill.

Mirwaiz reiterated that the Kashmiri Muslim community remains committed to welcoming Pandits back to their homes so they can live together in peace and harmony, just as they once did. (KNS)
