Dedicated Freight Corridor Registers Highest Train Movements, Supports Maha-Kumbh Operations
VINOD BHATT
NEW DELHI, Feb 5: The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has set a new benchmark in freight train operations, recording the highest-ever number of freight trains running on its network in January 2025. This achievement highlights the growing importance of DFCCIL in India’s logistics sector, reinforcing its role as a backbone for industrial and economic growth.
Unprecedented Freight Movement in January 2025
The DFCCIL has achieved a milestone by operating an average of 391 freight trains per day across its network. Breaking it down further:
- Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC): 209 trains per day (average)
- Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC): 182 trains per day (average)
This remarkable increase in freight movement reflects the efficiency and reliability of the corridor in catering to industrial and business demands across the country.
Record MUNU Rake Handling at New Unchdih Station
DFCCIL has also achieved the highest-ever MUNU rake handling at New Unchdih station, which is linked to Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited. Since its connection to DFCCIL in December 2023, the station has handled 175 MUNU rakes in January 2025 alone, setting a new record in freight movement. This underscores DFCCIL’s efficiency in meeting the increasing industrial demand for seamless logistics solutions.
DFCCIL’s Critical Role in Maha-Kumbh Mela 2025
With the Maha-Kumbh Mela attracting millions of devotees to Prayagraj, DFCCIL has stepped up its operations to ensure smooth train movement during the festival. The corporation has successfully diverted 100% of freight traffic from the East Central Railway and North Central Railway to the EDFC, reducing congestion and enabling hassle-free travel for pilgrims.
During the SNAN (holy bath) days from January 11 to January 31, 2025, an average of 155 freight trains ran daily on the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC). This strategic shift has significantly eased pressure on Prayagraj Division, facilitating the smooth operation of Maha-Kumbh Special trains.
