SRINAGAR, Mar 19: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday constituted a high-level committee to examine the issues related to the regularization of casual, seasonal, and other temporary workers in the Union Territory.
As per the order, a copy of which lies with Kashmir Despatch, the committee will be chaired by the Chief Secretary of J&K, with Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Administrative Secretaries of the Finance, GAD, Planning Development & Monitoring, and Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs Departments as its members.
The Administrative Secretary of the GAD will serve as the Member Secretary of the committee. The panel may co-opt other members as necessary, it said.
The government has directed the committee to assess all aspects related to the regularization of these workers, considering humanitarian, legal, and financial factors.
The panel will suggest a comprehensive way forward for resolving the long-standing issue affecting thousands of workers engaged in various government departments, it added.
It further said that the General Administration Department will provide secretarial support to the committee, which is required to submit its report within six months.
Pertinently, thousands of daily wage workers, contractual employees, Home Guards, Rehber-e-Khel teachers, Rehbar-e-Janglat staff, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and helpers have been struggling for years without job security. For years, they have been urging the government to expedite their regularization without further delay and provide clarity on their future employment status.
