J&K Govt Spent Rs 155 Crore on 2024 Assembly Elections

Jammu, Mar 24 : The Jammu & Kashmir Government on Monday revealed that Rs 155 crore was spent on conducting the 2024 Assembly elections in the Union Territory.

Responding to a cut motion by MLA Kupwara, Mir Muhammad Fayaz, Minister in-charge of the Election Department, Javaid Ahmad Dar, informed the Assembly that the expenditure for the 2014 Assembly elections stood at Rs 150 crore. He added that the government is actively considering the release of funds to clear pending liabilities from the recent elections.

“The recently held Assembly elections cost Rs 155 crore, and the matter of clearing liabilities is under active consideration,” the Minister stated.

The elections, conducted in three phases during September and October last year, saw the National Conference emerge as the largest party with 42 seats, followed by its ally Congress with six seats. The BJP secured 29 seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won three.

Additionally, the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference, Communist Party of India (Marxist), and Aam Aadmi Party each secured one seat, while independent candidates won seven.
