Srinagar, Mar 24 : Dr. Tauseef Ahmad Parray, an Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies in Jammu and Kashmir’s Higher Education Department (JK-HED), has achieved a significant academic milestone with the publication of his latest book through Peter Lang Publishing, a globally renowned academic publisher.
Currently posted at Government Degree College (GDC) Ganderbal, Dr. Parray hails from the Tral area of Pulwama district. His new work, titled Perspectives on Interpreting Islam in the Contemporary Indo-Pak Subcontinent: Issues and Trends, offers a comprehensive exploration of Islamic intellectual traditions across the region. Spanning over 260 pages, the book comprises six thematic chapters analyzing 21st-century trends, challenges, and scholarly contributions to Islamic reformist thought.
Dr. Parray, who joined JK-HED as an Assistant Professor in 2016, is an accomplished scholar with expertise in Islamic political thought, modernity, Quranic studies, and intellectual history. He has authored eight books and numerous journal articles, including Islam and Democracy in the 21st Century, published earlier by Oxford University Press.
A Scholarly Deep Dive
The book critically engages with Islamic primary sources, Quranic hermeneutics, and the Prophet’s Seerah (biography), while addressing legal, socio-political, and gender-related themes through the works of prominent Indo-Pak scholars. These include Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Yasin Mazhar Siddiqui, Muhammad Nejatullah Siddiqi, Muhammad Khalid Masud, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, and others.
