SRINAGAR, April 8: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah today chaired two crucial high-level meetings in Srinagar, reviewing both the security scenario and developmental progress in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The day-long engagements underscored the Modi Government’s dual-pronged commitment to completely eradicate terrorism and fast-track inclusive development in the region.
Security Review Meeting: Towards a Terror-Free Jammu and Kashmir
In a comprehensive security review meeting held earlier in the day, Amit Shah was joined by top officials including Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary, Director (IB), Chief of Army Staff, GOC-in-C (Northern Command), Chief Secretary, DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, heads of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and other senior officials.
Reiterating the Government of India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Home Minister applauded the security forces for significantly reducing terror-related incidents, curbing infiltration, and controlling the recruitment of local youth into terrorist ranks.
Shri Shah emphasized that due to the sustained, coordinated actions of the Modi Government, the entire terror eco-system in Jammu and Kashmir — once nourished by anti-national elements — has been crippled.
He instructed all security agencies to intensify their efforts through greater coordination to achieve the goal of a “terror-free J&K.” He particularly stressed the need to implement the Area Domination Plan and Zero Terror Plan in mission mode. The gains achieved post-abrogation of Article 370, Shah said, must be protected and built upon, with full support from the Centre in terms of resources and strategic planning.
Amarnath Yatra Preparedness: Security & Logistics in Focus
During the same meeting, the Home Minister also took stock of the preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra, scheduled from July 3 to August 9, 2025. He instructed all concerned agencies to ensure the peaceful and smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage, which sees lakhs of devotees visiting the sacred cave shrine.
Developmental Review Meeting: All-Inclusive Growth as the Foundation
In the second high-level meeting of the day, Shri Amit Shah chaired a comprehensive review of developmental initiatives and infrastructure projects in the Union Territory. The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary, senior officials of both Central and UT administrations, and notably, former Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah.
During the meeting, a detailed presentation was made on the achievements of Jammu and Kashmir in key sectors such as power, connectivity, industry, tourism, agriculture, among others. The financial aid extended to the UT by the Ministry of Home Affairs so far, along with allocations under various heads for the financial year 2024-25, were also discussed.
The Home Minister asserted that the Modi Government is working with unwavering resolve to build a developed Jammu and Kashmir, and added that PM Narendra Modi’s tireless efforts have ushered in a new era of prosperity, peace, and opportunity for the people of the region.
Shri Shah directed the officials to take all necessary steps to further accelerate the pace of development and ensure that the full potential of Jammu and Kashmir is realized. He described the ongoing all-inclusive development initiatives as reflective of the Modi Government’s commitment to transforming the region through positive and people-centric reforms.
He noted that comprehensive changes are now visible in every sector of the UT’s administration, and that the government’s priority is to sustain this momentum to achieve lasting peace and prosperity.
Government’s Twin Commitment: Peace Through Security, Growth Through Development
With the day’s twin meetings, the Home Minister sent a strong message of the Modi Government’s dual commitment to making Jammu and Kashmir both terror-free and development-rich. While the security forces continue their operations against terrorism, the parallel drive for growth and public welfare is fast reshaping the region’s future.
The synchronized strategy — coupling security assertiveness with developmental inclusiveness — appears to be central to the Centre’s vision of a new Jammu and Kashmir.
