Police Organizes Awareness Workshop on ‘Drug Abuse’ in Budgam

Under the supervision of SSP Budgam Shri Nikhil Borkar-IPS, Police in Budgam organized one-day awareness programme on “Drug Abuse” in collaboration with Yodhas at the Conference Hall District Police Office (DPO) Budgam. The initiative was conducted under the ambit of Operation Sanjeevani, aimed at combating the rising challenge of substance abuse in the district.

The programme was chaired by Senior Prosecuting Officer Shri Dar Rashid and attended by DySP Hqrs Budgam Shri Sajad Ahmad Malik-JKPS, students and faculty members from various degree colleges of Budgam district. Prosecuting Officer from the Juvenile Justice Board Budgam Smt. Tabeen Choudhary also graced the occasion.

The event commenced with an inaugural lecture by Sr. Prosecuting Officer Shri Dar Rashid, who elaborated on the grave consequences of drug addiction and emphasized various preventive strategies. His address underscored the psychological, social, and legal implications of substance abuse, particularly on the youth.

The primary objective of the programme was to sensitize the participants especially students about the detrimental effects of drug abuse and to empower them to act as ambassadors of change in their communities. The initiative sought to cultivate awareness and resilience among young individuals to resist the lure of narcotics and contribute to a healthier society.

Addressing the gathering, DySP Hqrs Budgam stressed the importance of youth involvement in the fight against drug abuse. He highlighted the pivotal role that both law enforcement agencies and the community must play in addressing this pressing issue. He encouraged the participants to become proactive stakeholders in building a drug-free environment.

Students and teachers expressed their gratitude to Police for organizing the workshop and acknowledged the department’s continued efforts in fostering a safer and more informed society.
