By Dropping PDP’s July 13 Martyrs’ Day resolution In Assembly, NC Has Exposed It’s Double-Speak On Kashmir’s History : Mehbooba Mufti

Date:

SRINAGAR: Former J&K CM & PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, strongly slammed the National Conference over “double speak” on Kashmir’s history. She highlighted that the assembly speaker’s decision to drop PDP’s resolution seeking official recognition of July 13 as Martyrs’ Day, moved by MLA, aimed to commemorate the sacrifices of 22 protestors martyred in 1931 during the fight against autocratic Dogra rule exposes “their silence proves complicity, not commitment.”

In a sharp statement, Mehbooba Mufti said, “By dropping PDP’s July 13 Martyrs’ Day resolution, the J&K Assembly has exposed NC’s double-speak on Kashmir’s history. Their silence proves complicity, not commitment.”

She accused the National Conference (NC), once vocal about preserving Kashmir’s historical legacy, of conveniently retreating when it mattered most. “When the moment came to defend a shared legacy, they chose silence,” she said.

The Peoples Democratic Party maintains that July 13, 1931, marks the dawn of political consciousness in Jammu & Kashmir and must be acknowledged officially. The party views the silence of NC and the rejection of the resolution as part of a broader attempt to dilute the region’s history and democratic foundations.

Mehbooba Mufti reaffirmed PDP’s resolve to resist any such efforts and to uphold the legacy of those who laid down their lives for the rights and dignity of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
