LONDON, July 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed heartfelt gratitude to the United Kingdom for its strong condemnation of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, PM Modi underlined the shared resolve of both nations in combating terrorism in all its forms.
“We thank the Prime Minister and his government for the strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. We are united in the belief that there is no place for double standards in the fight against terrorism,” Modi stated, in reference to the brutal attack that drew widespread outrage in India.
Reaffirming India’s stance on global terror, the Prime Minister stressed that extremist ideologies must not be allowed to misuse democratic freedoms for nefarious purposes. “Those who misuse democratic freedoms to undermine democracy itself must be held to account,” he emphasized, drawing a sharp line against any form of leniency toward terror-linked elements under the garb of civil liberties.
Modi also highlighted the commitment of both countries to deepen cooperation between their respective security agencies. “India and the UK will continue to enhance cooperation and coordination, particularly in matters such as the extradition of economic offenders,” he said, referring to pending high-profile extradition cases involving fugitives wanted in India.
The leaders’ joint resolve comes at a time when both nations are looking to reboot strategic ties and expand cooperation on global security, intelligence sharing, and counter-terrorism. (Agencies)
