Bandipora: In a vibrant tribute to the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Indian Army organised a Tiranga Rally in Dawar town of north Kashmir’s Gurez Valley on Friday. The event witnessed an overwhelming participation of around 700 people, including Army personnel, students, and civil officials, in a celebration of national pride and remembrance of the sacrifices made during the 1999 Kargil War.
Held in the picturesque and strategically significant Gurez Valley near the Line of Control, the rally aimed to honour the bravery of Indian soldiers who fought in the Kargil conflict. According to Army officials, the rally was intended to foster a sense of unity and patriotism among the residents of the remote border region, especially the youth.
Approximately 80 Army personnel, including officers and junior commissioned officers, led the rally alongside over 500 students from various schools and colleges in the area. Around 120 locals, including members of the civil administration, also took part in the event.
The rally, which included patriotic performances and speeches, was designed to strengthen civil-military relations and instill a renewed sense of national consciousness among the people of Gurez. The event also provided an opportunity for students to interact with ex-servicemen and serving soldiers, many of whom have firsthand experience of the Kargil conflict.
Local residents and officials described the rally as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the armed forces and a call to uphold the values of courage, discipline, and service to the nation.
The Indian Army said the rally was part of a broader effort to engage with the border population, especially in areas historically affected by militancy and limited connectivity. The celebration ended with tributes to fallen soldiers and a collective pledge to uphold national unity and sovereignty.
