NEW DELHI, Aug 18: In a remarkable response from commuters, the newly launched FASTag Annual Pass has crossed the milestone of five lakh users within just four days of its rollout. The facility, aimed at making highway travel smoother and more economical, was officially launched on 15th August 2025 and has since seen a surge in adoption across the country.
According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Tamil Nadu emerged as the leading state in terms of annual pass purchases, followed closely by Karnataka and Haryana. Transaction data further revealed that the highest toll plaza usage under the scheme was recorded in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.
Alongside the popularity of the pass, the Rajmargyatra mobile application—the official platform facilitating FASTag services—achieved a significant milestone in the digital space. The app has now climbed to #23 in Google Playstore’s overall ranking and secured the #2 spot in the travel category with more than 15 lakh downloads and a 4.5-star rating. Within days of the launch, the app has become one of the top-ranking government apps in the country.
The FASTag Annual Pass has been introduced as a cost-effective and time-saving option for commuters who frequently travel on National Highways. With a one-time payment of ₹3,000, the pass offers either one year of validity or up to 200 toll plaza crossings, significantly reducing the hassle of repeated recharges. Currently, the facility is available at around 1,150 toll plazas on National Highways and Expressways.
Designed for all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag, the annual pass gets activated within two hours of payment through the Rajmargyatra App or the NHAI website. Officials said the initiative is expected to not only improve the commuter experience but also reduce congestion and transaction delays at toll plazas.
The overwhelming adoption of the FASTag Annual Pass reflects the growing trust of highway users in digital solutions and underscores the government’s efforts to enhance efficiency in the tolling ecosystem.
